The challenge

Young people in Cape Town often have talent and motivation but lose momentum because of limited academic support, unstable structures and restricted career pathways. A football programme alone could not address this challenge.

What I built

Good Hope was developed as an integrated model combining football, education, life skills, mentoring, belonging and individual development. A local initiative became a structured organisation with several programme sites, recurring educational activities, institutional funding and a clear impact model.

My role

• Organisational positioning and strategic development · Fundraising strategy and grant development · Partnership acquisition and stakeholder management · Programme and participant pathway development · Reporting and impact communication · Coordination of locations, transport, teams and partners · Development of operating structures and responsibilities · Cross-border relationships between South Africa and Switzerland

From purpose to a scalable model

1. Defined the real objective beyond sports participation. 2. Combined football with life skills, tutoring and mentoring. 3. Built recurring programmes, sites, transport and responsibilities. 4. Translated the work into fundable programmes, budgets and outcomes. 5. Established reporting and institutional credibility. 6. Expanded participation, educational pathways and strategic partnerships. The funding model combines international foundations, Swiss partners, companies, football clubs and private supporters, including the FIFA Foundation, Zurich Foundation, Sarastro and Swiss football clubs.

Results and proof

• More than CHF 250,000 raised · FIFA Foundation support secured within 24 months · Approximately 130 active participants · Approximately 50% female participation · Several programme locations across Cape Town · Recurring life-skills, tutoring and mentoring activities · Education and university pathways beyond football. What this case demonstrates: Turning social purpose into a structured organisation with clear positioning, fundable programmes, institutional partnerships, measurable outcomes and ongoing operational delivery.
